The Stable of Stone

<<Back

The Stable of StoneThe Stable of Stone is a re-telling of the traditional nativity story. Written by Geraldine Smith, recently retired Headteacher of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Brighton, it provides a beautifully simple framework which you can adapt or extend to suit your resources.

Narrators tell the story, and there are small speaking parts for a few characters, but opportunities for non-speaking acting, moving and dancing parts for others.

The story starts with the Angel visiting Mary. The narrator then tells us how Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem to take part in the census.

Song - We're On Our Way to Bethlehem

Mary and Joseph's search for accommodation is described and then the action moves to the hillside where shepherds are guarding their sheep.

Song - 1,2,3,4,

Next we see the Wise Men travelling to find the new king.

Song - I am the King

Finally a tableau is built up as the shepherds then the kings, then the Innkeepers join Mary Joseph and the new born baby in the stable while the final song is performed.

Song- May We Come In?

Comments

"Robert, I just wanted you to know that the Christmas play was a full success. We had a fun time practising and it turned out really nice. If I ever need another play I will definitely look at yours first. The response from the congregation has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you again and I wish you a very happy 2004" Barbara Shober Wyoming, USA
